ESEE Best Student Prize (BSP)

We are happy to announce that at ESEE-Degrowth International Conference 2024 in Pontevedra, the European Society for Ecological Economics (ESEE) will again award the prize for the Best Student Paper. The deadline for applications is 6 May 2024 (no extensions will be granted). If your contribution is shortlisted, you will then be asked to upload the full paper by 17 May 2024. The student prize will be awarded during the conference.

Application criteria

    To be eligible, papers must:

    • Be a complete, original, unpublished manuscript in English; hence published (or accepted by a scientific journal) papers are not eligible to take part in the competition.
    • Be led by a student and written by a student as the first or only author.
    • The status of student is defined as follows: has been a student within the year leading up to the conference (18th of June 2023 in this case).
    • Where there are multiple authors, include a clear description of the contribution that the student(s) made to work.
    • Represent an original work in ecological economics.
    • Follow standard ethical requirements in research.
    • Be presented as an oral presentation by the candidate during the ESEE conference (poster submissions are not eligible).
    • Must contain a maximum of 6000 words (excl. tables and figures) and be accompanied by an abstract of max. 150 words.

    Student representatives are not eligible for competition during their active terms as members of the ESEE board.

    Evaluation criteria

    The shortlisting process for the abstracts is based on the gradings already provided by the reviewers during the acceptance process for the conference. The shortlisted papers will be assessed using the following criteria:

    1. Relevance to ecological economics
    2. Academic quality
    3. Rigor/clarity/style of writing

    If your paper is shortlisted, you will then be asked to upload the full paper  (maximum 6000 words) by the 17th of May 2024 using the template linked here - external link. The shortlisted papers will then be again reviewed. The student prize will be awarded during the Conference.
